Most people set up the Snuggy Pod without any issues. But a few things about the assembly process can look alarming the first time, and it is worth knowing about them in advance.
This article covers the most common setup questions we hear, so you can spend less time second-guessing and more time enjoying your Pod.
The dome poles look bent at the connector. Is that right?
Yes. The poles that form the dome are straight, but the connectors between them are angled. That angle is intentional.
The bent connector is what creates the curved arc of the dome. Without it, the poles would form a flat line rather than the rounded overhead structure. When you lay the poles out before assembly, the angled connector can look like damage, but it is doing exactly the job it is designed to do.
The connector angle varies depending on its position in the dome. Connectors near the top of the arch have a more pronounced bend than those towards the sides. This is deliberate. Each connector is shaped to produce the correct arc at that point in the structure.
If a connector looks cracked, split, or misshapen rather than simply angled, that is worth looking at. An angled connector fresh out of the bag is normal.
The central pole will not go all the way through
This is the most common setup issue we hear about. It usually means one of two things.
First, check that the fabric sleeve is fully open and not twisted at any point along its length. A slight twist in the sleeve can create a pinch point that stops the pole from travelling through. Smooth the sleeve out along its full length before reinserting the pole.
Second, make sure you are feeding the pole from the correct end. The central pole has a specific direction of travel. If it feels like it is meeting resistance early, try inserting from the other end.
Go slowly. If you push too hard against resistance you risk damaging the connector rather than solving the blockage. A gentle, steady feed works better than force.
A pole does not seem to fit the sleeve
Each pole corresponds to a specific sleeve. If a pole is not feeding smoothly, it may simply be the wrong one for that position.
Lay all the poles out before you begin and match them by length. The longer poles form the main arch of the dome, and the shorter poles are used at the sides and ends. The instruction card on the carry bag shows the layout.
The poles are colour-coded or length-matched to their corresponding sleeves depending on which version of the Pod you have. If you are unsure, contact us and we can talk you through it.
The canopy will not sit flat on the mattress
This usually means one or more poles are not fully seated in their sleeve. Run your hand along each sleeve to check that the pole has travelled all the way to the end cap.
A pole that has stopped short will leave a section of sleeve slack, which throws the tension off and causes the canopy to sit unevenly.
Once all poles are seated, give the whole canopy a gentle shake to let it settle. The fabric will redistribute and the dome shape should even out naturally.
The zip is stiff or feels like it might snag
New zips can be stiff, particularly on the mesh panels. Run the zip slowly the first few times rather than pulling quickly. If a zip feels like it is catching on the fabric, stop and check that the fabric is clear of the zip teeth before continuing.
Do not force a zip that is catching. Pulling hard against resistance is the most common cause of zip damage. Ease the fabric free of the teeth first, then continue slowly.
It is still not working
If you have worked through the above and something still does not feel right, we want to hear from you. Send us a short video or a few photos showing the issue and we will help you work out what is happening.
In most cases it is a simple fix. In the rare cases where there is a genuine product issue, we will sort it out for you.
Curved poles are normal. The central pole not going all the way through is usually a twisted sleeve or the wrong insertion direction. Poles that will not fit a sleeve are often in the wrong position. A canopy that sits unevenly usually means a pole has not travelled to the end of its sleeve. New zips should be run slowly. If none of this helps, send us a video and we will sort it.
